The Old Whores in Session

My band "The Old Whores Of San Pedro" were in the studio this weekend. We went to Naked Studios in Sheffield to record our first 3 track CD. I took a phew photos on my phone you can see them here.

Hopefully I'll have a copy of the CD in a couple of days. I'll try and get at least one of the tracks up here so you can hear it.

In the meantime enjoy the photos.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes....

Ok you may have noticed I've gone back to the old theme. This was due to some incompatibilities between the Picasa photos and the old themes CSS. If you viewed a photo at its largest size all the menus ended up underneath it! So here we are back with the old dark theme, and I'm loving it. I've tweaked the menus too. The music side of the site now only shows music related menus, and likewise with the photo section. This Drupal is completely configurable! Next step is to revamp the music section.

New! Photo Section using Picasa Drupal module

Just found a drupal module for Google's Picasa photo sharing site. It integrates he web albums I have stored there into my own peronal site! Woo! Thats some good integration going on there! I was using flikr, but they have annoyed me by crippling the sevice if you dont sign up for a paid for pro account. So I'm deleting my flikr account and moving to Picasa. I'll probably do a full write up about my experiences between the two later.

Anyway the Photo albums can be found here.

HOW TO: Upgrade the Firmware of a Sony Ericsson k750i to that of a w800i walkman phone

I recently got hold of a beaten up, but working Sony Ericsson k750i phone. I'm planning a couple of mods for it, new case and maybe an LED colour change. However the first thing I did was hack the phone so I could upgrade its firmware to that of the w800i, basicaly changing the phone into a one with Walkman capabilities. The two phones are identical in makeup but come with different firmwares installed. Anyway I found this method on a forum somewhere, apologies to whoever I copied and pasted it from. I cleared up the spelling and grammar and present it for you here.

What you need:

-The exploit (found here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MP5ZL5TQ)
-SEUS the sony erricson firmware upgrader (download at www.sonyericsson.com/support)
-W800.exe (Found in the Exploit)
-The CDA you want to use ( http://www.se-world.info/cda-strings )
-flash-driver (same as when you use SEUS for first time, see tutorial )
- 'cygwin1.dll' , you will find this in the exploit files.

What to do:

-copy cygwin1.dll to your windows\system32 folder
-EXTRACT CONTENTS TO A FOLDER NAMED W800
-the phone has to be cid36

Now step by step:

-Turn phone OFF and remove battery, sim card and USB cable.
-Replace battery (Do Not Turn Phone ON)
-after unzipping Double-click "W800.exe"
-Connect USB once you see the "30 seconds" message.
-A pile of data should scroll down the screen.
-On the blank line below the last bit of text type cda102430/6*, then hit Enter. *Note: here has to be your CDA you need. Take a look at the CDA string list for the one that you want.
-Now Type Q in the blank line below the last piece of text, then hit Enter.
-It should now tell you to remove the USB, after this you'll recieve a connection error. This is normal. close the program.

Now follow the SEUS-tutorial, your phone should be detected as W800.
Complete the update via SEUS, that's all.

NOTE: you do this at your OWN RISK!!!!

HOW TO: Use RSS and uTorrent to automaticaly download TV shows.

First download uTorrent, in my opinion the best torrent client out there. Its compact, has a low memory footprint and most importantly has a built in RSS reader.

So once you have uTorrent installed open it and select the RSS button.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Then press the "add" button and add this url: http://tvrss.net/feed/combined/
Like so:

Now you need to tell the reader which torrents you want to download. For example Heroes torrents. So click on the favorites tab and In the filter section write in the name of the TV show. You can use * as a wild-card. You can also tell uTorrent where to save it and what quality torrent (SD HDTV HR.HDTV etc), as well as what episode numbers you want. Its also good to set a minimum interval of say 4 days so you don't download any duplicates of the same show. It should look like this:

Once every thing is filled in and you are satisfied, click close. And your uTorrent is now armed to download whatever show you have specified from the RSS feed.

Another Theme Change!

The last theme was perfect colour wise. But I didnt have much real estate on the screen. Now with this theme I have more real estate but not the colours I want.

So?

Im gonna have to learn a bit more CSS. Hopefully I will be able to tweak the colours I want.

CSS Tweakery

Just put the finishing touches to the Drupal theme. Got my hands dirty by getting into the CSS style sheet and changing the colours of the fonts. I'm feeling a lot happier about the site now. Ive finaly settled in. The ubiquitous  3D Che  has joined me too.  Now  all that is needed is  a little more content. And some juicy external links.

Themetics

So I found a theme. What do you think? I'm liking dark it works for me. Theres a few tweaks to do here and there, need a logo but apart from that its all good.

Thematics

So I'm now discovering that Drupal, though a cracking content manager. Is severely lacking on the theme front. Hopefully I'll find a good one. Doesnt look like many people are moved to design one.

Things have to start somewhere.

So I just bought the mcmull.in domain. I figure its a good investment. Personally I'm more happy having that than say mcmullin.com ans it allows me to have greg.mcmull.in as my home page. and should I need to I'll have greg [at] mcmull [dot] in as my email. Although it will probably just feed to my gmail account.

I'm running this thing on drupal. Simply because my mate Dunc set it up for me that way. To be honest I was a bit weary of it at first, but it definitely makes putting a website together a breeze. My only gimp so far is that I don't seem to be able to find a good looking theme. Ill keep looking for one though.
