Project 365 Day 186: PROOF! In Black & White

05-07-10 My transcript turned up for my final year today. Along with a letter that confirmed my result! That's it now it's all over. My graduation ceremony is not untill November though.

Processed this in Lightroom 3 to add faux film grain and a ridiculous vignette.

Project 365 Day 185: Macca

04-07-10 This is SOOC! Got lucky with the light in this one I think. I was taking some portrait shots of my band and got Laura to look up into the light. I immediately loved the catch lights in her eyes and thought "yeah, thats nice". After getting it into Lightroom I decided it was good enough as it was.

You can't replace good light.

Project 365 Day 173: Bad Ju Ju

22-06-10 Working full time is sapping all the inspiration from my 365 as yesterday's shot was testament too. Today I got home and had no impetus to shoot anything. Then I spotted out new African mask that we picked up from my Wife's mother the weekend before last. There was just enough available light left in the flat to get a decent exposure at ISO 800 and with Lightroom 3's new anti noise algorithms I was able to get a usable shot.

Project 365 Day 104: On The Frets [explored!]

14-04-10 Long day today. Lots of uni work. 3 hour networking lab and a band practice. Have to write my conclusion...

Project 365 Day 83: The Blue Door To Nowhere [Explored!]

24-03-10 I spotted this door a few days ago. Its on the side of a building near my University, about 3 foot off the ground. What caught my eye though is the plaque above the door. I have no idea why it is there but it is pretty cool! The building itself has no roof and behind that door looks to be on the verge of collapse. I processed this with the wonderful cross processing tools in Colour Efex Pro and that was all.

Project 365 Day 82: Call Of The Wild [explored!]

23-03-10 So my journey into strobism continues. This shot had me really scratching my head I knew what I wanted to achieve but I wasn't sure how to but after playing around with the lighting and a little bit of post production I was happy with the result.

Strobist...
YN-460 II @ 1/2 power | Amber Gel | beneath the table shooing at the rear wall
YN-460 II @ 1/2 power | Red Gel | Camera Right aimed at ceiling
ISO 100 | 1/160 | f8 | 50mm
Triggered by Cactus v4s

I was very happy with the colours the strobes had created but the elephant wasn't in shadow enough so I boosted the black levels in Lightroom which gave me a crisp silhouette, then reduced the saturation till I had the colours back. This strobist thing is fun! It also means I can shoot whenever I like and not have to worry about the light. Not sure this lens has been at f8 before!

Project 365 Day 42: Silver Balls of Bokeh [Explored!]

11-02-10 Today was another day where I had to force myself to go and take pictures. Really didn't feel like shooting today, but I got out and walked around my local area looking for something to shoot. I found this. Its part of a wall/sculpture on Devonshire Green in Sheffield. I got a few strange looks when I was taking it but I'm getting use to that now. It's processed with one of the amazing cross processing presets in Colour Efex Pro and sharpened.

Project 365 Day 41: The Beauty In Concrete

10-02-10 Have I ever mentioned how much of a fan of brual modernist architecture I am? No? Well I have now. This pic is of one of my favoutite bits of concrete Sheffield. Its the bottom of the ramp that leads to the Atkinson's car park. There are a number of interesting angles on this ramp and I will be posting some more of them in the future. I dont know why I like concrete so much in many ways it can be a blot on the landscape but sometimes it can just be beautiful. This pic was processed only in lightroom its not a HDR but it kind of looks like it. I boosted the black levels in the image and this began to bring out some amazing tones. A little tweak of the saturation and vibrancy and the tones were there in full effect. I hope you like this one as much as I do. Oh wow! I just looked out the window and we have a blizzard! Damn, I have to go to work in that!

Project 365 Day 28: Tiny Bubbles [Explored!]

28-01-10 Believe it or not this is practically straight out of the camera. All I did was add a little contrast and sharpen it. What is it though? Well its a bottle of shower gel.For some reason my wife bought me a lot of shower gel for Christmas. She must think I smell. Anyway when I woke up (late) this morning the sun was streaming into my flat again. I noticed the tiny bubbles in the bottle a few weeks ago and I thought it would make for an interesting macro, I grabbed the bottle placed it in the direct sunlight and started shooting through it. About 85 shots later I finally had something usable. Hope you like it!
